Disney is reportedly eyeing ‘The Bikeriders‘ star Austin Butler to play the lead in Disney’s upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ film. However, Butler thinks it is hard to outperform Johnny Depp‘s legacy character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Online, Butler was asked about joining the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise.
Butler said, “It’s a hard one to touch because they did it so well.” Butler added, “I loved what Johnny Depp did with that.”
The current plan for Disney is to feature a female protagonist in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, and they are aiming for a younger cast of pirates as they embark on a quest for hidden treasure.
In March 2024, producer Jerry Bruckheimer told ComicBook.com that he and Disney were planning to make a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ reboot film.
Bruckheimer said, “[…] We’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ series, is teaming up with Ted Elliott, writer of the first four ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films, for the upcoming movie.
Butler was last seen in Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Two,’ where he played the role of Feyd-Rautha. The film has grossed $711.8 million worldwide. He will next be seen in Jeff Nichols’s ‘The Bikeriders,’ releasing on June 21, 2024.
If you are asking for a release date for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6,’ we don’t have any updates yet. However, there is a chance for a 2026 theatrical release.
