The Blu-ray release date for Ava DuVernay‘s ‘Origin‘ has been announced. The film is set to be released on April 9, 2024. You can now pre-order on Amazon.
The movie is an adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” which delves into racism in the United States as a manifestation of a caste system. DuVernay has both written and directed the film.
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor stars as Isabel Wilkerson, with Jon Bernthal portraying Brett Hamilton, Isabel’s husband. Niecy Nash plays the role of Marion Wilkerson, Isabel’s cousin, and Emily Yancy plays Ruby Wilkerson, Isabel’s mother. Finn Wittrock appears as August Landmesser, Victoria Pedretti as Irma Eckler, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Elizabeth Davis, and Isha Blaaker as Allison Davis. Additionally, Vera Farmiga as Kate, and Audra McDonald as Miss Hale.

While grappling with tremendous personal tragedy, Isabel sets herself on a path of global discovery. Despite the colossal scope of her project, she finds beauty and bravery while crafting one of the defining American books of our time.
‘Origin’ premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 6, 2023, competing for the Golden Lion. Its theatrical release, handled by Neon, started on January 19, 2024.
