The release date for ‘Beau Is Afraid‘ on digital platforms has been revealed. Starting June 13, 2023, you can buy or rent the movie on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Google Play Movies & TV.
‘Beau Is Afraid’ is scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 11, which is the US release date, allowing viewers to enjoy the movie at home.
Ari Aster wrote and directed the film, which he also co-produced with Lars Knudsen. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Beau Wassermann, Patti LuPone as Mona Wassermann, Amy Ryan as Grace, Nathan Lane as Roger, Kylie Rogers as Toni, Denis Ménochet as Jeeves, Parker Posey as Elaine Bray, Stephen McKinley Henderson as the therapist, Richard Kind as Dr. Cohen, and Hayley Squires as Penelope.
According to the film’s plot synopsis, Beau (Joaquin Phoenix) lives alone in a downtown apartment where every moment is a waking nightmare. Prone to anxiety and paranoia, he visits his longtime therapist, who prepares him for his journey to visit his mother. But mayhem ensues on the eve of Beau’s departure, spinning his life in a surreal new direction.
What happened at the end of Beau Is Afraid?
At the end of the film, Beau escapes the estate on a motorboat and enters a cave. The boat’s engine falters, transporting him to a crowded arena where he’s put on trial for being a bad son. Mona and Dr. Cohen act as prosecutors, while a cheap lawyer defends Beau. With his feet stuck to the boat, he pleads with his mother, but she doesn’t respond. Feeling hopeless, Beau accepts his fate. The motor explodes, sinking the boat and drowning him. The film ends with Dr. Cohen and Mona sobbing as the crowd leaves the arena.
Beau Is Afraid was released in theaters on April 14, 2023. The film received a positive response from the audience but did not perform well box office. It grossed $10.8 million against its production budget of $35 million.
