According to PlayStation, Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past. As the Destined One, you shall encounter powerful foes and worthy rivals throughout your journey. Fearlessly engage them in epic battles where surrender is not an option.
On its August 20th release day, Black Myth: Wukong reached 2.2 million peak concurrent users on Steam within 24 hours—making it the most popular single-player game on the platform—with 4 million wishlists—also making it the most wishlisted game on Steam.
The game has received 97% positive reviews from 250,000 users, while Steam’s download bandwidth peaked at launch—setting a new record. Physical and collector’s editions (without CD) sold out in seconds, and 700,000 gamers signed up for the limited 30,000 physical copies available. Additionally, the game garnered 1.7 billion views on Weibo on launch day and was covered by national news in China—becoming the most-watched game on Huya, DouYu, and Bilibili—with 29 million viewers on launch day. During this time, $1 million in donations were made for Wukong streamers, and Chinese studios are now ready to compete globally—as the game sold 10 million copies in just 3 days—with the PS5 version performing very well in China.
Black Myth: Wukong is now available for PS5 and PC, while the release date for the Xbox Series X/S has not yet been announced.
