Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have changed their minds following the release of ‘Blue Beetle‘. They are now developing a ‘Blue Beetle’ animated series, which follows the continuation of the ‘Blue Beetle’ film starring Xolo Maridueña.
According to Deadline, Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) has been involved with the project since early this year. He will serve as the showrunner and director, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement and Good Trouble) is set to write for the project.
The film is produced by Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who directed and wrote 2023’s ‘Blue Beetle’. John Rikard, who held a production role in the film, is also involved. Galen Vaisman, an executive producer of the film, will oversee the animated TV series for DC Studios.
It is not sure yet whether the cast of the 2023 film is returning or not. There might be some returning characters to the animated series for sure. On Instagram, following the Deadline update on the ‘Blue Beetle’ project, Maridueña shared his excitement. He posted a story and wrote, “BLUE BEETLE LIVES.”
In Blue Beetle film, Jaime Reyes (Maridueña) suddenly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology called the Scarab. When the Scarab chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he’s bestowed with an incredible suit of armor that’s capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.
The film also stars Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, and George Lopez.
