Finally, after many rumors about Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming movie, Universal Pictures has given a Christmas surprise for Nolan fans. It will officially be an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
On X, Universal Pictures shared the official update: “Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
The film is described as a mythic action epic that follows the tale of Odysseus and his 10-year journey home after the Trojan War. It stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson.
Nolan has worked on period films before, like Oppenheimer and The Prestige. The Odyssey is a big change for him, with gods, goddesses, and monsters. Homer’s The Odyssey is from the 8th century BC. Nolan has also worked with fantasy ideas in films like making Batman feel real and exploring shared dreams in Inception.
Filming will begin in early 2025. Nolan will produce alongside his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner.
