The note Christopher Nolan left for Cillian Murphy upon selecting him to play the lead in his film has been revealed.
During his interview with 60 Minutes, Murphy discusses his approach to acting and the preparation process for portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer in ‘Oppenheimer.’ After spending six months getting ready both physically and mentally, he says he put all he learned in the back of his mind and acted on instinct. Additionally, he shares a note from Nolan, left on the ‘Oppenheimer’ script. Check the image below.
The note contains, “Dearest Cillian. Finally, a chance to see you lead… Love, Chris”
Cillian Murphy, winning his first BAFTA for Best Actor in ‘Oppenheimer,’ thanked Chris Nolan in his acceptance speech for the exhilarating script and constant push.
Murphy said, “Chris [Nolan], thank you for that extraordinary, exhilarating script and for always pushing me.” He added, “Oppenheimer was this colossally knotty, complex man; he meant different things to different people. One man’s monster is another man’s hero. That’s why I love movies, as a place to interrogate and investigate that complexity.”
Nolan recalls being at a party 15 years ago and drunkenly telling Cillian Murphy that he’s the best actor of his generation. “Thanks to ‘Oppenheimer’, that looks less like the shabby ramblings of a drunk guy.”
