Colin Firth (‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle,’ ‘Operation Mincemeat’) is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s untitled UFO movie alongside Emily Blunt (‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘The Fall Guy’), as reported by Deadline. Universal Pictures has already set the theatrical release date for May 15, 2026.
The title is not yet confirmed, but there’s a hint it might be ‘The Dish.’ The story is based on Spielberg’s original idea, with the script penned by David Koepp, the writer behind ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘War of the Worlds.’
Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2025—the plot details are being kept secret. The film is produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger, Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, and Universal Pictures.
The film also stars Josh O’Connor, with more cast members to be announced soon.
A report from X user @Unexplained2020 suggests that Steven Spielberg believed UFOs were most likely time-travelers returning from the future to prevent catastrophes. In the book Conversations with Mark Frost, author David Bushman reveals that Spielberg shared his experiences from making Close Encounters of the Third Kind, where he collaborated with Allen Hynek, the former head of Project Blue Book.
Spielberg believes “there’s definitely something” to the UFO phenomenon, with Spielberg suggesting that time travel could be involved. He hypothesized that people from the future might be trying to prevent catastrophes, such as the development of atomic weapons, given the high number of UFO sightings near nuclear sites.
The film will hit theaters on May 15, 2026, by Universal Pictures.
