Jake Schreier confirms Marvel Studios plans multiple X-Men movies. The director says the focus is on one great film while exploring long-term franchise ideas.

Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts*, has confirmed that Marvel Studios has plans for multiple X-Men movies. However, he says the current priority is to make one great X-Men film first. Schreier is directing the project, with Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) writing the script. The duo previously worked together on Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.

In a recent interview with Collider, Jake Schreier revealed that Marvel Studios is already thinking about the long-term future of the X-Men franchise. The team is discussing different directions the story could take and exploring how to adapt storylines from the comics.

Jake Schreier said, “I think, obviously, first things first: we have to make one great movie.”

He added, “We always have an eye on the future as we’re talking about it. We ask: what are the different places this can go? What parts of the comics have been explored? What hasn’t been explored as much, and how can that be incorporated? And what are some of the different avenues we could take that feel like less-trodden paths? Those ideas are always out there as we continue our discussions.”

Schreier hasn’t revealed much, but Marvel Studios seems to be taking a new approach to the X-Men. They want something different from 20th Century Fox and plan to use new and less-used comic ideas.

It is reported that Sadie Sink has signed a deal with Marvel Studios for five movies, as she is set to play the X-Men’s Jean Grey. She is expected to be a central character in the MCU’s Mutant Saga, with her first appearance reportedly coming in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Following Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel is reportedly planning a soft reboot by merging different universes into Earth-616. This would bring characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four into one shared world, as if they had always existed there.
