The release date for Cruel Summer season 2 has been announced. According to Deadline, Cruel Summer Season 2 will premiere on Freeform on June 5, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Freeform announced Monday that Cruel Summer season 2 will air on June 5 with a special two-episode premiere. The debut episodes will run at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the show’s regular schedule at 10 p.m.
The series is set in the 1990s in a small town in Texas and follows the story of two teenage girls, Kate Wallis, and Jeanette Turner. The plot unfolds in a non-linear fashion, with each episode revealing new details and perspectives on the events that took place during three different summers. In 1993, Kate goes missing, and Jeanette becomes popular and seemingly takes Kate’s place. However, in 1994, Kate is found alive, and Jeanette becomes a social outcast after being accused of knowing about Kate’s kidnapping and doing nothing to help.
Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella, and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
Cruel Summer stars Olivia Holt as Kate Wallis, Chiara Aurelia as Jeanette Turner, Froy Gutierrez as Jamie Henson, Harley Quinn Smith as Mallory Higgins, Allius Barnes as Vince Fuller, Blake Lee as Martin Harris, Michael Landes as Greg Turner, Brooklyn Sudano as Angela Prescott, Sarah Drew as Cindy Turner, and Andrea Anders as Joy Wallis.
The series is created by Bert V. Royal and produced by Jessica Biel. Elle Triedman serves as the showrunner. Executive producers include Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano, and Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple of Iron Ocean Productions. The series is produced and distributed internationally by eOne.
