Daisy Edgar-Jones (Fresh, Where the Crawdads Sing), Jacob Elordi (Deep Water, The Kissing Booth 3), Will Poulter (Midsommar, The Little Stranger), Diego Calva (Babylon, Beautiful Losers) and Sasha Calle (The Flash) have been cast in the film adaptation of ‘On Swift Horses’. The filming has begun in Los Angeles.
The film is directed by Daniel Minahan from a screenplay by Bryce Kass, which is based on Shannon Pufahl’s novel of the same name. The film is co-produced by Ley Line Entertainment and FirstGen Content. Produced by Steele Page on behalf of Ley Line, with Michael D’Alto producing on behalf of FirstGen Content.
‘On Swift Horses’ follows newlyweds Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and Lee (Poulter), who are beginning a bright new life when he returns from the Korean War. However, this newfound stability is upended by the arrival of Lee’s charismatic younger brother, Julius (Elordi), a wayward gambler with a secret. A dangerous love triangle is quickly formed as the three vow to start a new life together in California, but their bid for the American Dream is blown apart when Julius disappears and heads for Las Vegas instead. Muriel embarks on a secret life of her own, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible.
The film is financed by Ley Line, FirstGen, and Wavelength. Executive produced by Alvaro Valente, Bryce Kass, Killer Films’ Christine Vachon, and Pamela Koffler. Nate Kamiya and David Darby of Ley Line are also executive producing, as well as Randal Sandler, Claude Amadeo, and Chris Triana for FirstGen, and Jennifer Westphal and Joe Plummer for Wavelength.
Edgar-Jones is best known for her lead role as Marianne in the critically acclaimed television series “Normal People” (2020), which earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress. Before her breakthrough role in “Normal People,” Edgar-Jones appeared in a few minor television roles, including “Silent Witness” and “Outnumbered.” Edgar-Jones also starred in “Where the Crawdads Sing” (2022) and “Fresh.”
Poulter has gained world recognition for his role as Eustace Scrubb in “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (2010). He then appeared in several other films, including “We’re the Millers” (2013), “The Maze Runner” (2014), and “The Revenant” (2015), for which he received critical acclaim for his performance as Jim Bridger. Poulter will next star in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” playing the role of Adam Warlock.
Elordi is best known for his role as Noah Flynn in the Netflix film “The Kissing Booth” (2018) and its sequels, “The Kissing Booth 2” (2020) and “The Kissing Booth 3” (2021). He also appeared in the HBO series “Euphoria” (2019) as Nate Jacobs, which earned him critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy nomination.
Calva is known for his performance as Alfonso in the film “Museo” (2018), directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios. The film won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Calva received critical acclaim for his performance. Calva’s other film credits include “Moronga” (2021), “El baile de los 41” (2020), and “Ya no estoy aquí” (2019), which was selected as the Mexican entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. Most recently, Calva starred in Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon.”
Calle is best known for her role as Lola Rosales on the daytime soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” for which she received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series. She had been cast as Supergirl in the upcoming film “The Flash,” directed by Andy Muschietti. This marks her first major role in a feature film, and she will become the first Latina actress to play the character.
