Dakota Johnson (Madame Web) and Adria Arjona (Hit Man) are set to star in ‘Splitsville,’ a new comedy for Neon and Topic Studios. The film is described as a “comedy about navigating an open marriage.”
According to Deadline, Michael Angelo Covino—known for his breakout indie dramedy The Climb (2019)—has closed a deal to direct and star in the film. Kyle Marvin, Covino’s collaborator on The Climb, co-wrote the script with him. Filming is set to begin this fall.
‘Splitsville’ follows Ashley (Arjona) asking for a divorce—watching as the good-natured Carey (Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. He’s shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage—until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.
‘Splitsville’ reunites Neon and Topic Studios, who previously collaborated on Infinity Pool, a sci-fi horror film by Brandon Cronenberg—marking Neon’s first in-house production set for theatrical release.
The film will be developed by Covino and Marvin under their multiyear first-look deal with Topic Studios, which also produced The Climb.
Covino and Marvin, along with Emily Korteweg, will produce the film through their company, Watch This Ready, in collaboration with Topic Studios and Neon. Johnson, Ro Donnelly and Samantha Racanelli will produce for TeaTime Pictures. Arjona and Paul Barbeau will serve as executive producers.
Neon will handle domestic distribution and Neon International will launch worldwide sales at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.
‘Splitsville’ is scheduled to hit theaters next year.
