Dakota Johnson (Madame Web), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), and Chris Evans (Ghosted) are set to star in Celine Song’s upcoming rom-com, ‘Materialists.’ The film follows a high-end matchmaker who becomes involved with a wealthy man. Production is expected to start in May 2024.
Song, acclaimed for her breakout directorial debut ‘Past Lives,’ is set to follow up with ‘Materialists,’ a New York-set rom-com. The film revolves around a high-end matchmaker who becomes entangled with a wealthy man. The roles of Johnson, Pascal, and Evans have not yet been disclosed.
A24 will reunite with Song, partnering with Killer Films and 2AM for the production. A24 will oversee the global release of the film, with rumors suggesting a debut at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The film will have the same producers as ‘Past Lives’: Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler from Killer Films, and David Hinojosa from 2AM.
Song’s debut feature, ‘Past Lives,’ premiered at Sundance in 2023 and became one of the year’s most talked-about films. It earned five Golden Globe nominations, two Academy Award nominations, and three BAFTA Film Awards nominations. With over $20 million in global box office earnings, it solidified Song as a promising cinematic voice and a major presence in awards season.
Johnson will star in Sony’s ‘Madame Web‘ as Cassandra Webb, hitting theaters on February 14, 2024. Evans recently appeared in ‘The Gray Man‘ and ‘Ghosted,’ after his long stint as Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal has been busy with roles in both ‘The Mandalorian‘ and ‘The Last of Us.’ Additionally, he is set to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s upcoming ‘Fantastic Four‘ movie.
The release date for ‘Materialists’ has not been announced yet.
