Following the success of the Predator franchise, Disney and Dan Trachtenberg are now collaborating on a new project inspired by a classic Disney tale.
Trachtenberg is set to direct a new project inspired by Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty. The untitled project is currently in early development at Disney. The film is “said to take the Sleeping Beauty story in an entirely new direction with Trachtenberg’s distinct sensibility.”
According to Deadline, the brand-new Sleeping Beauty movie will not be connected to Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent films. Trachtenberg and Rayna McClendon developed the original story, while Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are writing the screenplay. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.
Trachtenberg will produce the project alongside his longtime producing partner, Ben Rosenblatt, with Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan also serving as a producer. EVP Production Jessica Virtue is overseeing the project with Creative Executive Alina Mota, under Disney Live Action president Daria Cercek.
Trachtenberg and Disney have a strong relationship after he helped bring new life to the Predator franchise with 2022’s Prey. The movie was successful on Hulu, received positive reviews, and earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie.
He later directed Predator: Badlands and the animated movie Predator: Killer of Killers for Hulu, which has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Trachtenberg’s three Predator movies are currently the highest-rated films in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes.
While the film is now confirmed, there is no official update on the cast, release date, or other details. Pre-production is expected to begin soon.
