Danny DeVito has revealed that he would reprise his Penguin role from Tim Burton‘s Batman movie, but only under one condition: Burton must direct it.
During the Oscars 2024, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who portrayed Mr. Freeze in 1997’s ‘Batman & Robin,’ and DeVito reunited and joked about their Batman villain roles with Michael Keaton. DeVito, while on stage with Keaton, quipped, “There he is! You’ve got a lot of nerve!”
In an interview with Screen Rant for “Matilda in Concert,” DeVito revealed he will return to the Penguin role, but under the condition that it be directed by Burton.
DeVito said, “If Tim Burton was directing it, I’d be there in a second. Oswald Cobblepot is my favorite.”
“I had a good time. It’s operatic. I like every once in a while going big [Laughs], and so I’d do that in a second. We had a ball doing that.”
In the 2023 film ‘The Flash,’ Keaton reprised his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Despite being the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the film flopped at the box office. However, Keaton’s performance received high praise.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via ComicBook.com), Keaton discussed the possibility of returning to his iconic role.
Keaton said, “I don’t think about it much.” He further commented, “Never say never, I don’t think. Everything depends upon something else.”
Keaton was set to star in the ‘Batman Beyond‘ movie, which ultimately got canceled. The film was rumored to feature a romance sequence between Keaton’s Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman.
