Warning: This post contains potential spoilers for Avengers: Secret Wars.
A rumored plot detail has hinted at a major fan-favorite character returning in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Secret Wars.
At the end of Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom reportedly creates Battleworld, with all branches and timelines joining into a single reality. The heroes reportedly forget everything and become Doom’s slaves. Following these major events, Doctor Strange’s spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home is rumored to break, and another rumor claims that Tony Stark will return.
According to the Avengers: Secret Wars plot leak, Tony Stark will return as a broken man living on Battleworld, with his character described as “a gambler and alcoholic with no memory of his past.”

Tony eventually encounters the Resistance, who convince him to join their fight against Doctor Doom. In an unexpected moment, his memories of the original MCU timeline reportedly begin to return.
The leaker said, “Doom isn’t killed and returns to the Fantastic Four universe. The major twist is that when Loki recreates the Multiverse at the end, he makes one change—Tony is alive again and reunited with his family on Earth-616.“
There are reports that Avengers: Secret Wars will indeed be split into two parts. The first part will introduce lesser-known and younger characters to the general public, while the second part will be a sort of “Marvel Ultimate Alliance,” bringing together all of Marvel’s heroes.
The story will adapt Children’s Crusade, but it will take place on the Battleworld Doom creates, possibly in the Void.
The characters will have to free the Avengers from Doom’s mind control while facing off against the Avengers and other characters under Doom’s control.
According to Alex P. (via The Cosmic Circus), the Resistance will reportedly be the main focus of Avengers: Secret Wars. Sam Wilson’s Avengers, Yelena’s Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four will reportedly be under Doctor Doom’s mind control for much of the film.
Perez also claimed that any Marvel villain could reportedly return, saying that “anyone and everyone is fair game.”
