David Jonsson (Murder is Easy) and Tom Blyth (Tom Blyth) are set to star in Calum Macdiarmid’s prison thriller ‘Wasteman‘. Bankside Films has secured an early deal with Lionsgate for UK & Ireland rights, as confirmed by Screen Daily.
Directed by Macdiarmid from a screenplay by Hunter Andrews and Eoin Doran.
What is the Plot of ‘Wasteman’?
According to the thriller’s plot details, parolee Taylor (Jonsson) finds his hopes of a fresh start jeopardized by the arrival of dominant cellmate Dee (Blyth). As Taylor seeks solace and protection in Dee’s shadow, their bond is tested when Dee becomes the target of a vicious attack, leading to an ultimatum that threatens Taylor’s chance at parole and his survival.
Produced by Sophia Gibber and Myles Payne, BIFA nominees from Agile Films. The film is made in association with Philip Barantini and Samantha Beddoe’s It’s All Made Up Productions and Hoopsa Films. Stephen Kelliher and Sophie Green will serve as executive producers for Bankside, alongside Philip Barantini and Samantha Beddoe, Sonny Gill and Tim Macready for Hoopsa Films, Hunter Andrews, Sam Williams, and Jonsson.
In a statement, MacDiarmid said, “Wasteman is a prison thriller that I hope will offer just as much heart as it does thrill, and show the world a previously unseen vision of the prison reform system.”

Lionsgate’s Emma Berkofsky negotiated the UK & Ireland deal with Bankside’s Yana Georgieva, who oversees worldwide sales.
The release date for ‘Wasteman’ is yet to be announced.
