The announcement was made at New York Comic-Con during the Warner Bros. Animation panel, The Art Knight: Batman in Animation. The film is based on the Batman: Knightfall comic book arc. The original comic arc was released in three parts between 1993 and 1994.
Here are the plot details for Batman: Knightfall:
“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
The film series is based on DC characters and the Batman: Knightfall comic event by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent.
Screenwriter Jeremy Adams confirms that Tim Drake will be Robin in the Batman: Knightfall animated film:
“It’s old-school Tim. He’s so good in it.”
