In a statement, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn says the ‘Lanterns’ show will be a “terrestrial-based mystery.”

Gunn said, “We call it Lanterns, and it is starring two of our favorite Green Lanterns—Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It’s going to be with HBO Max, as all of our series are that we’re going to talk about today. It is more of a True Detective–type mystery with our two Lanterns. A terrestrial-based mystery.”

Recently, Aldis Hodge, who played Carter Hall/Hawkman in 2022’s Black Adam, revealed he is interested in playing DCU’s Green Lantern.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Hodge said, “I would love to live out the rest of the legacy of Hawkman because we had some amazing plans for him. But also, with John Stewart in sort of a live-action capacity. I mean, I’ve voiced John Stewart in the animated space for years now. Few years. Phil LaMarr passed the baton. Shout out to Phil because I’m a big fan of his work. But if that became a film adaptation, absolutely. I mean, one of my dreams growing up was to be John Stewart in live action. So yeah.”

Not only Hodge, but Sterling K. Brown also expressed his interest in playing Green Lantern in the DCU and hopes for a call from Gunn and producer Peter Safran, the co-chairs of DC Studios. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Brown says he would be excited to play John Stewart in the DCU. “Maybe I have to give somebody a call.”

‘Lanterns’ will premiere on Max in 2025.
