Disney has officially disclosed that ‘The Marvels‘ has a final budget of $270 million, which is different from the previously reported figure by Vanity Fair. To break even, the film will need to gross $439.6 million, as confirmed by paperwork submitted to Forbes. The film had a runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes (107 minutes).
Disney’s ‘The Marvels’: Net Spending and Box Office Break-Even Challenge
Over two years, Disney spent $274.8 million but got a $55 million subsidy from the UK government. So, their net spending is $219.8 million. To break even, the film has to make at least $439.6 million at the worldwide box office, which can be tough given the revenue split with theaters.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, the film also holds the record of being the most expensive movie ever directed by a black woman, surpassing Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle In Time’. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Park Seo-joon, Zawe Ashton, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur. The film also brings back Goose, the Flerken.
