The new plot details for Disney’s Zootopia 2 have been revealed following Annecy’s International Animation Film Festival.
In the sequel, Judy and Nick discover that Gary intends to steal a mysterious book at a party where it will be displayed, and there they find out that the book can actually clear the snake’s reputation. They escape with Gary and become wanted by the ZPD. While hiding, they discover that the real villain has already killed another animal to obtain that same book.
The horse that appears in the Zootopia 2 trailer is called Mayor Winddancer, and he is the new mayor of Zootopia. According to the panel at Annecy, he is an actor-turned-politician.
The film is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard from a screenplay by Bush. It is a sequel to 2016’s Zootopia and is produced by Yvett Merino.
The voice cast includes Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde, Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake, Fortune Feimster as Nibbles, Shakira as Gazelle, Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby, Jean Reno as a goat cop, and Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big.
At the Annecy Animation Festival panel (via Variety), Bush made his first appearance and said, “Nick and Judy are now the Zootopia Police Department’s newest rookie cop partners.” Bush added, “But the question of this movie is whether these two animals, who are so different, really have what it takes to stay together in the long run. In other words, if the first movie was like their honeymoon, this movie is what moving in feels like.”
Synopsis: Judy and Nick find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town.
Zootopia 2 will be released in theaters in the United States on November 26, 2025, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
