Note: This post contains spoilers for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production, and we have some important updates on the movie’s plot.
According to Alex (Via The Cosmic Circus), Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be the main character of Avengers: Doomsday, similar to how Thanos was the main character in Avengers: Infinity War. Doom sees the Multiverse incursions as a threat and plans to stop them by using young Franklin Richards. He sees himself as the hero of the story and will do whatever it takes to stay in power.
Thor’s role involves joining the battle to prevent an incursion from destroying the universe. As per report, Monica Rambeau has a larger story role than Magneto, Cyclops, or Thor, though Thor will have more screen appearances.

The film will feature multiple character teams, including Sam’s Avengers, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Team Loki, the X-Men, and Team Doom (though Doom doesn’t really need allies).
Avengers: Doomsday will feature Earth-616, Earth-828, the Fox X-Men’s Earth, and an Earth completely destroyed by an incursion, with the Multiverse still unstable after Loki Season 2 and only a few viable Earths remaining. The X-Mansion will be packed with mutants, potentially leading to more X-Men appearances, and fans may also see a live-action location from What If…?, while the Library of Worlds remains uncertain.
There are possibilities that Earth-616 heroes Peter Parker, Stephen Strange, Clea, Monica Rambeau, Bruce Banner, Tatiana Maslany, Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Cassie Lang, Love, Hope Van Dyne, Okoye, Team Loki, Deadpool, Wolverine, and more will appear. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell will also appear, drawn back into action for “end of the world” stakes, while Halle Berry has been rumored and Hugh Jackman’s stunt double was reportedly spotted at Pinewood Studios.

The X-Men costumes will blend styles from Astonishing X-Men and X-Men ’97 — the script is still being written without a locked runtime, with the story being shaped first before trimming or adjusting in post-production — and stunt doubles for unannounced actors have already been seen filming.
The next cast announcement could come before the end of the year, with major surprise additions, and the first teaser trailer is expected in mid-to-late July 2026.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Doomsday is now being co-written by McFeely and Michael Waldron, the creator and head writer of the Loki series. The film features cinematography by Newton Thomas Sigel (Bohemian Rhapsody, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and production design by Kasra Farahani.
The official cast members of the film include Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing), and Lewis Pullman as Sentry.
Produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Russo Brothers will produce through their AGBO banner.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters and IMAX across the United States on December 18, 2026.
