Directed by Campanelli from a screenplay by Luke Fraser and Edward McDonald, the film stars Eric McCormack as Mike Drinkwater, Daniel Doheny, Louriza Tronco, Jordan Burtchett, and Alex Zahara.
What is Drinkwater About?
In small-town Canada, awkward teen Mike Drinkwater signs up for a cross-country race with the hopes that a victory will win him a college scholarship, but more importantly, help him escape his offbeat father who spends more time defrauding the government than paying attention to his son. As he trains for the race, Mike bonds with his new neighbor, a depressed American girl named Wallace.
Produced by Graham Fraser and Dennis Swartman, the film was made by Suitcase Charlie Films.
The film had its world premiere at the 2021 Calgary International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice Award for Best Canadian Narrative Film. It was then screened at the 2021 Whistler Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.
