Warner Bros. Pictures has delayed the release dates of several major films, citing ongoing disputes over fair payment to actors and writers.
Upcoming Movie Release Schedule
‘Dune: Part Two‘ will be in theaters on March 15, 2024. ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘ has been postponed to April 12, 2024. ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim‘ has been postponed to December 13, 2024. ‘Mufasa: The Lion King‘ will be released on July 5, 2024, and ‘Despicable Me 4‘ will be released on July 4, 2024.
‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘ will still be released on December 20, 2023. ‘The Color Purple‘ by Blitz Bazawule will also be released on December 25, 2023. Paul King’s ‘Wonka,’ starring Timothée Chalamet, is keeping its release date of December 15, 2023.
The SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strike has surpassed 110 days, with studios continuing to resist equitable agreements during negotiations. Despite the lengthy strike, studios have yet to resume talks with SAG-AFTRA and have not engaged with WGA constructively. Instead of proactive negotiation to ensure fair deals for writers and actors, studios are opting to incur expenses by postponing movie releases. It’s important that the combined proposals from WGA and SAG-AFTRA represent less than 3% of a studio’s annual revenue.
