Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos secretly filmed a movie in Greece, their fifth collaboration, with Robbie Ryan as the cinematographer.
In an interview with Cineuropa, Lanthimos said the new project with Emma Stone is “much simpler and very different in comparison to Poor Things because that story needed that particular style.“
Lanthimos new film ‘Poor Things,’ starring Stone, received an 8-minute standing ovation at the 80th Venice International Film Festival premiere.
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
‘Poor Things’ also stars Ramy Youssef as Max McCandless, Jerrod Carmichael as Harry Astley, Christopher Abbott as Sir Aubrey de la Pole Blessington, Margaret Qualley as Felicity, Kathryn Hunter as Swiney, Suzy Bemba as Toinette, and Wayne Brett as Pries.
Poor Things hits theaters on September 8, 2023.
