Warner Bros. Pictures will release the first trailer for the live-action Minecraft movie, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, today, Wednesday, September 4, as confirmed by insider Daniel Richtman in a post on his Patreon.
Most recently, the Minecraft trailer has been rated internationally by the government of Alberta, Canada. They have officially given the trailer a G rating, with a runtime of 1 minute and 19 seconds.
Directed by Jared Hess—from a screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer—based on the 2011 video game of the same name by Mojang Studios.
The cast includes Black as Steve, Momoa, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.

The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.
Speaking to SceenRant, Producer Jon Berg confirmed that the upcoming ‘Minecraft’ live-action movie will be a “big Warner Brothers spectacular.”
Berg said, “That’s going to be an amazing movie, that’s going to be an amazing movie. We have all the resources. It’s a big Warner Brothers spectacular. We’ve got Jason Momoa and Jack Black in it. I think it’s going to inspire people. Minecraft’s such a cool game. My kids played it; I played it, it’s going to be true to the game. And Jared Hess directing is going to do an awesome job.”
The film is produced by Berg, Cale Boyter, Vu Bui, Roy Lee, Jill Messick, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Mary Parent. The production involves collaboration between Mojang Studios, Microsoft, Vertigo Entertainment, Legendary Pictures, and On the Roam. Warner Bros. Pictures will handle distribution.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Minecraft theatrically in the United States on April 4, 2025.
