Warning: This post contains potential spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reportedly feature a villain who has the power to control people, as confirmed by Daniel Richtman.
We previously reported that Sadie Sink is playing the role of Shathra, who is the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and she will also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. She is a Wasp-Goddess who feeds on Spider-Totem energy, corrupting and possessing her victims to increase her own power. Peter Parker’s worst week does not start by chance. It starts because someone wants to see where he breaks. In Brand New Day, Shathra manipulates several events in Spider-Man’s week.
According to insider Majestic, “Sink would be Shathra in the MCU. Her character would be an entity tied to the Web of Life and Destiny, capable of sensing multiversal anomalies.”

Shathra would detect that Doctor Doom is manipulating the Web to save his reality from an Incursion.
That interference would be the first sign of the total collapse of the Multiverse.
Before the collapse, Shathra would test Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, giving him “the worst week of his life” to see if he can become her champion when Secret Wars begins.
The movie would function as a modern version of “the labors of Hercules,” but applied to Spider-Man. There would be no traditional villain: “It’s a challenge to Peter’s soul and will before the end of the Multiverse.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Jones III has been confirmed to play the role of Tombstone. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.
Here’s the new synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day:
After the world has forgotten his name, Peter Parker (Holland) begins a new chapter in his life — balancing college classes, part-time work, and his responsibility as New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But when a mysterious force begins to unravel the city from the inside out, Peter finds himself caught between powerful enemies, old legacies, and unexpected allies. As shadows from the past creep into his present, he must redefine what it truly means to be a hero — on his own.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026; Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters and IMAX across the United States on December 18, 2026; and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
