MCU’s ‘Thunderbolts‘ begins filming in January 2024, joining Marvel’s ‘Blade‘ reboot and ‘Wonder Man‘ series, both scheduled for the same month.
Robert Kirkman Accidentally Reveals Steven Yeun as Sentry in the MCU
The Walking Dead and Invincible creator, legendary Image Comics partner, and head of Skybound Entertainment, Robert Kirkman, accidentally reveals that Steven Yeun is playing Sentry in the MCU.
Speaking with comic artist David Finch, Kirkman says, “My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie.”
Kirkman said, “Yeah, he called me; he went in for a costume fitting. I hope I’m not. I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe. We’ll see. I don’t care. I don’t work for Marvel. What are they going to do to me?” He added, “Yeah, he called me, and he said, ‘I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.’ He said he was at the costume fitting and was like, ‘Aww, crap. I forgot Invincible was yellow and blue.'”
It was already reported that in the MCU, Yeun’s Robert Reynolds (Sentry) joins the Thunderbolts team in the first two acts, but an unexpected event tears him away from them. In the film, Sentry joins the Thunderbolts but turns against them due to an incident, and he’s confirmed to be one of the film’s villains. Director Jake Schreier has revealed that the Thunderbolts will consist of individuals who share a common history of past trauma.
Who is Sentry?
In Marvel Comics, Sentry’s real name is Robert Reynolds, and he is portrayed as one of the most powerful and enigmatic superheroes in the Marvel Universe. His origin story is that he gained his superhuman powers through an experimental serum derived from a mysterious formula called the “Golden Sentry Serum.” This serum granted him superhuman strength, speed, durability, flight, and a range of other abilities, making him incredibly powerful. Created by writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee, Sentry first appeared in “The Sentry” #1 in 2000. The character was later reintroduced to the Marvel Universe as a whole in “New Avengers” #10 in 2005.
