First Look: Roland Emmerich’s Rome Drama Series ‘Those About to Die’ Revealed

Peacock has revealed the first look at Roland Emmerich’s ‘Those About to Die‘ series, a story based on the world of gladiators in Ancient Rome, starring Anthony Hopkins.

The show is developed by Robert Rodat, based on Daniel P. Mannix’s nonfiction classic of the same name, and directed by Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner.

Plot Details:

“Set in the corrupt world of spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told—the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most—blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.”

The show stars Hopkins as Vespasian, with Dimitri Leonidas portraying Scorpus, Jojo Macari as Domitian Flavianus, Gabriella Pession as Antonia, Iwan Rheon as Tenax, Sara Martins-Court as Cala, Moe Hashim as Kwame, David Wurawa as Gavros, Tom Hughes as Titus Flavianus, Lara Wolf as Berenice, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Viggo, Adrian Bouchet as Porto, Rupert Penry-Jones as Marsus, Angeliqa Devi as Caltonia, Eneko Sagardoy, Pepe Barroso, Gonçalo Almeida, Davide Tucci as Manilius, Kyshan Wilson as Aura, Alicia Edogamhe, Michael Maggi as Rufus, Hossein Taheri as Abbas, Thomas Hunt as Lucius, Clelia Zanini as Marcia, Christopher Ward as Tiones, Mohammad Bakri as Farid, Emilio Sakraya as Xenon, and Romana Maggiora Vergano.

The show consists of 10 episodes, with Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner directing five episodes each.
