Romeo has found his Juliet! Yes, Francesca Amewudah-Rivers is set to star as Juliet alongside Tom Holland as Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s West End stage adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet‘.
The official website of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ has recently updated the complete cast, featuring Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Freema Agyeman as Nurse, Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio, Mia Jerome as Montague, Michael Balogun as Friar, Nima Taleghani as Benvolio, and Ray Sesay as Tybalt, with Callum Heinrich and Kody Mortimer as camera operators.
Director Lloyd leads The Jamie Lloyd Company, with text edited by Nima Taleghani. Set and costume design is by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, and sound design by Ben and Max Ringham. Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom handle video design and cinematography, while Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante serves as composer. Stuart Burt is the casting director, and Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui (SAY) are movement directors. Ingrid Mackinnon acts as the intimacy coordinator, with Jonathan Glew as associate director and Rachel Wingate as associate designer. Anna Josephs takes the role of associate costume designer.
Deadline reported Holland’s words, stating, “Beyond excited to announce our cast for Romeo and Juliet. I can’t wait to get started and I know we’ll create something really special together.”
Amewudah-Rivers said, “I’m so grateful to be making my West End debut as Juliet with The Jamie Lloyd Company. It’s a dream to be joining this team of incredible artists with Jamie at the helm. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ will premiere at the Duke of York’s Theatre on Thursday, May 23rd, with previews starting on Saturday, May 11th. The show will run until Saturday, August 3rd, 2024.
