What is the Plot of Megalopolis?
The film follows the destruction of a metropolis which brings clashing visions of the future. An architectural idealist (Driver) and the Mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) debate on whether to embrace the future & build a utopia or take a business-as-usual rebuild strategy, replete with corruption and power brokering. In between their struggle is the mayor’s socialite daughter Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel), a restless young woman who grew up around power and is looking for meaning in her life.
On Instagram, Ford Coppola wrote, “Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together on May 4th. But sadly, that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.”
The film stars Driver as Caesar, Forest Whitaker, Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Schwartzman, Shia LaBeouf, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Kathryn Hunter, James Remar, Chloe Fineman, Madeleine Gardella, and Isabelle Kusman.
The film’s French distribution rights have been acquired by Le Pacte, while the US rights have not yet been revealed. Recently, the film was screened for 300 guests at the Universal CityWalk IMAX Theater.
According to World of Reel, ‘Megalopolis’ was shown to be a little over 2 hours long and confirmed to be the final cut.
