Glen Powell (Anyone but You, Twisters) is set to star in and produce Homewreckers, an erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), a bidding war for Homewreckers is underway among studios and companies. Legendary, Lionsgate, New Regency, Sony, and Warner Bros. Pictures are competing for the project, with the deal expected to be finalized soon.
The plot details are being kept secret. The story, written by Neil M. Paik, is based on an unpublished three-chapter piece, and he will also write the script. It is described as “a mix of Adrian Lyne’s steamy thrillers (9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction) and Alex Garland’s films (Ex Machina, Civil War), exploring modern anxieties.”
In an interview with SHARP Magazine, Powell stated that he wants to “build trust with the audience by working hard to ensure they’re entertained.”
Powell said, “The thing that I’m trying to do is build trust with the audience that I’m going to work my butt off to make sure they’re entertained.” Powell added, “That way, when they show up and pay their $15 for a ticket, they’ll at least be able to say, ‘I know that this dude is going to try to deliver quality. He’s going to summon every bit of himself to try to deliver quality.’”
Powell has had an incredible year. His recent rom-com Anyone But You, with Sydney Sweeney, released in 2023, was a big box office hit, making him one of the top male actors. Additionally, his romantic comedy thriller Hit Man on Netflix, which he co-wrote and produced, received great reviews and earned him a Golden Globe nomination this week. He also starred in Twisters, a new version of the 1990s tornado movie, which was a summer hit and made over $370 million worldwide, including $267 million in the U.S.
Homewreckers release date is currently to be announced (TBA).
