Netflix has released the first trailer for Grant Singer’s ‘Reptile,’ starring Benicio Del Toro as a New England detective solving a real estate agent’s murder. Through the case, he reflects on himself. The film will premiere on Netflix on October 6, 2023.
Directed by Singer from a screenplay he co-wrote with Benjamin Brewer and del Toro and a story he co-wrote with Brewer. The film follows: “Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems. By doing so, he dismantles the illusions in his own life.“
The film also stars Justin Timberlake as Will Grady, Alicia Silverstone as Judy Nichols, Michael Pitt as Eli Phillips, Ato Essandoh as Detective Dan Cleary, Karl Glusman as Sam Gifford, Sky Ferreira as Renee, Eric Bogosian as Captain Robert Allen, Domenick Lombardozzi as Wally, Frances Fisher as Camille Grady, Matilda Lutz as Summer Elswick, Owen Teague as Rudy Rackozy, Catherine Dyer as Deena Allen, Mike Pniewski as Chief Marty Graeber, Thad Luckinbill as Peter, James Devoti as Bennett Rosoff, and Michael Beasley as Victor.
In a statement, Del Toro said, “The collaboration was a lot of fun.” Del Toro added, “Once we knew where we needed the story to land, then the question becomes, ‘How do we get there? How do we make it interesting?’ We did research and tried to make it as real as possible. We talked about movies and storytelling, with certain films as references. One that comes to mind is In Cold Blood.”
Timberlake said, “I wanted to get to the end as quickly as possible — just like a good book or suspenseful novel.” he added, “I liked the idea of playing a character that has to constantly react to the unpredictability of what’s thrown in his direction.”
‘Reptile’ is set to debut at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, followed by its release on Netflix on October 6, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
