Paramount Pictures has released the new trailer for David Ayer’s survival thriller Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a former soldier, and his dog, Odin, who must fight for survival after a plane crash in the wilderness. Watch it below.
In the new trailer, James and Odin’s deep bond and shared trauma are shown. James comforts Odin during what appears to be a PTSD-related nightmare, telling him, “Just a bad dream… We’re not there anymore.”
A conversation with J.K. Simmons’ character reveals that Odin is a former combat scouting dog who was badly injured while serving. James reveals that he killed the person responsible for hurting Odin.
The story then moves to the wilderness, described as “the heart of the beast,” where James and Odin must fight to survive. Their plane crashes after James appears to have a medical problem while flying, and Odin helps him get to safety.
The trailer shows James and Odin trying to survive in the forests and mountains. They cross dangerous rivers, fall into the water, and face wolves. James keeps encouraging Odin, saying, “We’ve been through worse” and “I got you.”
James promises to get Odin home safely, saying, “I’m going to get you home. We just have to do this the hard way.” He later tells Odin, “One last mission. We’re not gonna die out here.”

In a recent interview with People, Pitt said, “Following Uber’s lead and improv-ing is really how we do scenes.” He added, “It’s really beautiful in the film how they work together and depend on each other.”
Directed by David Ayer and written by Cameron Alexander, Heart of the Beast stars Brad Pitt alongside J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. Pitt, Ayer, Olivia Hamilton, and Marty Bowen produce the film, while Damien Chazelle is among its executive producers.
Heart of the Beast will hit theaters on September 25, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.
