Iman Vellani is a Canadian actress of Pakistani heritage best known for her portrayal of Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel.” Vellani, who was born on August 3, 2002, in Markham, Ontario, Canada, is the first Muslim actress to play a Marvel Comics character on screen.
In an interview, Vellani said, “The fact that the show is being made and they’re including this character in the MCU is [what’s important]. I don’t really have to go out of my way to talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani; it all comes out in the show. Seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough.”
Iman Vellani will next appear in “The Marvels” alongside Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, and Park Seo-joon. The film is directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. Most recently, the first trailer debuted online. The film will hit theaters on November 10, 2023.
