Matt Reeves‘ The Batman: Part II is in the pre-production stage now. Also, Reeves is planning to add Dr. Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr. Freeze, as one of the villains in the sequel.
On a recent episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider said that there could be some truth to the rumors of Mr. Freeze being the villain in Reeves’ untitled The Batman sequel.
Sneider said, “I think there may be a little bit of truth to those Mr. Freeze rumors… an untested, unproven source reached out to suggest this.”
Back in 2022, Reeves mentioned considering Hush as a potential villain for a sequel, but nothing was confirmed. He said, “There are so many, and, I dunno… I think Hush is a really interesting one to do. I’ll say, Hush. But that doesn’t mean that the next one will be Hush!”
Who is Mr. Freeze in DC?
In DC Comics, Dr. Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr. Freeze, is one of Batman’s adversaries. Created by Bob Kane, David Wood, and Sheldon Moldoff, he first appeared in Batman #121 in 1959, originally under the name Mr. Zero. The character was later revamped and renamed Mr. Freeze in the 1960s. In the live-action movie Batman & Robin (1997), Arnold Schwarzenegger played the role of Mr. Freeze.
Recently, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the release date for The Batman: Part II has been delayed by one year and is now set for October 1, 2027. Filming is scheduled to begin in Q3 of 2025.
The Batman: Part II is a continuation of the Batman story created by Reeves. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone.
The film is not part of the DC universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, though they are overseeing the project.
The Batman: Part II will hit theaters on October 1, 2027, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
