Bill Skarsgård‘s terrifying Pennywise returns to haunt once again.
HBO Max has released the official trailer for the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry. Set in the world of Stephen King’s IT universe, IT: Welcome to Derry is based on King’s IT novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two. Watch the trailer below.
The cast of Welcome to Derry includes Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Skarsgård returning as Pennywise the Clown. Recurring cast members include Dean Yool, Madeleine Stowe, Alixandra Fuchs, Kimberly Norris Guerrero, Tyner Rushing, Dorian Grey, Thomas Mitchell, BJ Harrison, Peter Outerbridge, Shane Marriott, Chad Rook, Joshua Odjick, Morningstar Angeline, and Rudy Mancuso.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Andy Muschietti and his sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti, said, “This is a book we love a lot, and we felt that there was still a lot of story to be covered.” Barbara added, “It’s so rich with characters and events, we thought we would do justice to the book and the fans by going back into this world. Specifically, we are telling the stories of the interludes — writings by Mike Hanlon based on his investigation, which includes interviews he conducts with the older people in the town. In Welcome to Derry, we touch on the usual themes that were explored in the movie — friendship, loss, the power of unified belief — but this story also focuses on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is especially relevant to our times.”
Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, IT: Welcome to Derry is based on the novel It by Stephen King, with the story developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. The series is executive produced by Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (through their Double Dream production company), Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Fuchs, who wrote the screenplay for the first episode, and Kane serve as co-showrunners on the project.
Welcome to Derry will premiere this fall on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. Andy Muschietti will direct four episodes of the nine-episode series.
