HBO‘s It: Welcome to Derry series has begun streaming on the platform, and we’ve received major plot leaks for the upcoming episodes.
The U.S. government has known about Pennywise since the 1950s. His arrival was recorded as a supposed meteorite impact, but in reality, it was the descent of a cosmic entity.
Pennywise was intended to be used as a biological weapon. The military developed “Project Mirage,” an attempt to harness his power of fear as a weapon against the Soviets and Cubans during the Cold War.

The 13 pillars are fragments of the meteorite in which It arrived on Earth. They contain energy capable of weakening or containing the monster and serve as the central focus of the series.
A native tribe has protected the pillars for centuries, knowing that if they are desecrated, the entity will awaken and the cycle of destruction will begin again.
Dick Hallorann (from The Shining) works for the government, using his “shining” gift to track Pennywise’s cosmic energy. His role connects the larger Kingverse.
Leroy, the protagonist, suffers a brain injury that leaves him unable to feel fear. The military uses him as a key subject to approach Pennywise without succumbing to his influence.
The Ritual of Chüd will appear in a reinterpreted form. In the series, the government studies it as an experiment to contact It, with disastrous consequences.

Pennywise will spend more time in his human form, interacting with scientists and military officers, showing a manipulative and almost hypnotic side.
Derry becomes a reflection of fear. Its influence blends with Cold War paranoia, creating an atmosphere of psychological terror and corruption.
The ending ties directly into the story of It (2017). The series concludes with Pennywise’s awakening beneath the sewers and the yellow balloon floating for the first time.
The show was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, all of whom were involved in the It films. It is based on Stephen King‘s 1986 novel It and serves as a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019).
