Due to scheduling conflicts, Jacob Elordi now stars as Frankenstein, replacing Andrew Garfield in Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming movie.
Elordi has joined the cast alongside Oscar Isaac (Victor Frankenstein), Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz. Also, newly added to the lineup are Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery.
del Toro is doing everything – writing, directing, and producing it. ‘Frankenstein’ is the latest addition to Netflix’s collaboration with del Toro, following their successful ventures, including the Academy Award-winning ‘Pinocchio,’ the anthology series ‘Cabinet of Curiosities,’ and the animated films ‘Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans’ and ‘Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.’
The movie is based on Mary Shelley’s novel and follows the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment. This classic story has been adapted for the screen several times, with the iconic 1931 version directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff.
In an interview with Collider, del Toro said, “I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it; we start shooting on it in February. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein, and I had an epiphany. It’s basically a movie that requires a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re going to tackle it.”
Elordi, the 26-year-old actor from HBO’s ‘Euphoria,’ has experience portraying well-known figures. He recently played Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s drama ‘Priscilla‘ and starred in the dark comedy ‘Saltburn‘ alongside Barry Keoghan, directed by Emerald Fennell. He is represented by Gersh.
