James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli says they haven’t started planning for the post-Daniel Craig era. She stated that there’s a major journey ahead to reinvent the character for the next chapter and that the process of modernizing the franchise hasn’t even begun.
What does Barbara Broccoli mean when she says, “There’s a big, big road ahead of reinventing it for the next chapter”?
In an interview with The Guardian, Broccoli said there is “a big road ahead” before the character is “reinvented for the next chapter”, and that executives “haven’t even begun” the process of modernizing the franchise. Broccoli added, “Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character, and also the world was ready for it. I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead of reinventing it for the next chapter, and we haven’t even begun with that.”
Barbara Broccoli on future bond films to stay on the big screen
In 2021, Amazon acquired the Bond franchise from the MGM catalog, but Barbara Broccoli made it clear that future Bond movies would stick to the big screen.
Broccoli said, “We make the Bond movies for the big theatrical screen, and everything about the Bond movies is for audiences to see around the world on that format, so we’ve not wanted to do television.”
The next James Bond film, Bond 26, is set for 2024 production. Rumors of Christopher Nolan’s directing are circulating. Also, Nolan is potentially on board with creative control, Aaron-Taylor Johnson’s screen test is confirmed, EON Productions aims for period-appropriate adaptations of Ian Fleming’s books, and Nolan may direct 2-3 films before transitioning to an Executive Producer role to guide the franchise.
