James Gunn has confirmed that ‘Creature Commandos‘ will premiere at the end of 2024 on Max. This means that we will likely get to watch the animated DC show on Max in November or December 2024.
Gunn confirmed the release news on Threads when a fan asked him to reveal the release date for ‘Creature Commandos’.
On Threads, Gunn responds to criticism that there’s no cohesion in DC due to properties being on other streamers. He said, “DC projects being spread across different platforms… is not the same as not having any cohesion in the DCU timeline, which we very much do (starts with Creature Commandos).”
‘Creature Commandos’ is the first DC Universe series, based on the DC Comics team. It’s part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and produced by DC Studios.
Gunn already clarified that the DCU canon will start with the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’ and then ‘Superman: Legacy.’
He said, “I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.
As for the DCU, Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”
