DC boss James Gunn has confirmed that Hawkgirl‘s wings in the DCU are “organic,” as seen in the first look from the Superman movie trailer.
Fans have questioned the difference, as Hawkman’s wings in Black Adam were tech-based extensions from his suit. However, Gunn remains true to the comics, ensuring that Hawkgirl’s wings will be a natural part of her body in the DCU. Isabela Merced is playing the role of Hawkgirl.

On Threads, a fan asked James Gunn if Hawkgirl’s wings in the Superman trailer were organic or mechanical, as they were struggling with their eyesight and couldn’t tell. They also thanked Gunn for creating a great cinematic universe.
Gunn simply replied, “Organic.”

In an interview with Collider, Merced described her version of Hawkgirl as “so cool” and a “full circle moment.”
Merced said, “I was a DC kid growing up. We had the action figures, and most of them were so old and used that the paint had come off… But I really adored Hawkgirl. I had Hawkgirl and Hawkman as part of my collection. Well, technically, it wasn’t mine—it was my siblings’ and mine. We had Hot Wheels too. We just had a really fun, enjoyable childhood with those. So, this is a full circle moment.”
The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
The film is written and directed by Gunn and is the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn also produced the film with Peter Safran under DC Studios.
