James Gunn confirms ‘Superman: Legacy‘ will film worldwide, with Atlanta as the main location, while most other DCU projects will focus on filming in London.
James Gunn Reveals DC’s Filming Plans: London for Most, Atlanta Home Base for ‘Superman: Legacy
During a discussion on Threads, Gunn was asked about DC’s move to London, to which he responded, “Most future DC projects will be shot largely in London. Legacy is being shot in many places across the world, but our home base is in Atlanta.”
The casting for Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ was recently announced. David Corenswet is set to be the new Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane. Filming is planned for the spring, depending on the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike. ‘Superman: Legacy’ follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Recently, Gunn clarified on Threads that the DCU canon will start with the animated series ‘Creature Commandos‘ and then ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Watching currently released content like ‘Blue Beetle’ won’t be necessary. You can watch ‘Blue Beetle’ now on digital platforms.
As for the DCU, James Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”
Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
