Superman: Legacy Will Honor Previous Superman Movies
James Gunn, who directs superhero movies in an action comedic genre, confirmed that his upcoming DC movie, ‘Superman: Legacy‘ will not have the same tone as the ones he directs. Gunn confirmed that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he made was definitely a sincere superhero movie. The film will be the DC Universe’s first film and the third installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, created by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter during the promotional circuit for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn discusses his journey with Marvel Studios, including his firing, and also gives an update on his new Superman movie. He said, “It’s easier to take a character nobody knows, like the Guardians, or Peacemaker, and then do whatever you want with them.” Gunn added, “People in every single country in the world know the story of Superman.“
Gunn continued, “How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made so far?” He added, “So it just took me some time to try to figure it out.“
What Is The Plot Of Superman: Legacy?
Superman: Legacy follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
The cast details have not yet been revealed. According to Gunn, DC Studios has “some incredible choices” and he’s “relieved.” Most recently, he confirmed that the film’s pre-production has begun and shared the script image.
Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
