Following the success of DCU’s first film, Superman, the follow-up sequel has been officially announced with a release date set for July 9, 2027.
On X (formerly Twitter), James Gunn, the DC Studios co-CEO, revealed that the Superman sequel is officially titled Man of Tomorrow and announced its release date. Gunn also shared artwork, drawn by Jim Lee, featuring Superman standing next to Lex Luthor, who is wearing his high-tech green and purple power suit. This time, Lex Luthor will face off against Superman. See it below.

Soon after Gunn’s announcement, David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent/Superman, and Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor, shared two different artworks in their Instagram posts.

In Man of Tomorrow, Corenswet will return as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, among others.
Gunn will write and direct the film, which will be set in DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios will produce. Speaking to Deadline Crew Call, Gunn said the Superman follow-up movie takes place “within the group of characters we’ve already met, and Superman is an important element.”

The film has grossed $612 million globally so far, receiving high praise from both critics and audiences. It is also available on VOD platforms.
DC also has Supergirl releasing on June 26, 2026, and the studio is set to begin production on Clayface, which is scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. The accelerated schedule also means the Superman sequel will release before Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which is currently slated for October 1, 2027.
