Two legends of horror movies are teaming up for a new project. James Wan and Sam Raimi are going to collaborate on an upcoming horror film titled ‘The Burden.’
Recently, Deadline reported that film projects produced by genre experts Wan, Raimi, and Roy Lee are set to be adapted into video games by the ambitious new Sino-American fund, Stars-Hana.
In ‘The Burden,’ Wan and Raimi are producing under their banners, Atomic Monster and Ghost House Pictures, respectively.
What is ‘The Burden’ About?
‘The Burden’ follows a young woman visiting her boyfriend’s family home, where she learns about a sinister history with his creepy neighbor, and soon all kinds of skeletons come out of the closet.
After directing the horror film ‘Malignant‘ in 2021, Wan shifted to working on the DC sequel ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which was released on December 22, 2023. In an interview with Collider, Wan hints at a possible return to the horror genre for his next film.
Wan said, “You know, I have a tendency to want to go back and forth. So, whenever I make a smaller film, I want to go and make a big film. Whenever I’m doing a big one, I’m like, “Oh, I wanna go and do a smaller film,” and when I do my smaller films, it tends to be a horror film. So, you know, I feel like the itch for horror is potentially calling, but we’ll see.”
Wan directed franchise-launching films like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring. Meanwhile, Raimi gained fame with the cult classic Evil Dead series and later returned to horror comedy with Drag Me to Hell. In 2022, Raimi directed Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
