The producer of John Wick: Chapter 4, Basil Iwanyk, revealed that Keanu Reeves asked to be killed off in the film due to the physical and emotional toll of making these movies.
Keanu Reeves’ Struggle and Closure in John Wick Films, Says Producer
During a recent interview with Collider while promoting the upcoming John Wick spin-off, ‘The Continental,’ producer Basil Iwanyk discussed the toll of making John Wick films on Keanu Reeves. Iwanyk explained, “After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movies, making these films is so exhausting, and it destroys Keanu physically and emotionally.” He continued, “By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’ We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a 10% little opening.'”
Director Chad Stahelski on the Alternate Ending of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’
Recently, Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, revealed that they filmed a different ending for ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ where John Wick was shown at the end, making it clear that he was alive. However, after testing with audiences, they found that people actually preferred the more ambiguous ending.
In John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick will die at the end of the film. Caine and John want to deal with a two-person pistol duel. Caine shot John on his shoulder the first time, a second round on his hand, and a third on his stomach. John was badly injured and fell down. The final shot was taken by Marquis Vincent de Gramont from Caine. When going to take his shot, John, who hadn’t taken his third shot on Caine, will take on de Gramont. With a severe injury, John will die after getting his freedom from the High Table.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is directed by Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. The film also stars Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane. Read our review.
