John Wick: Chapter 5 is in the works at Lionsgate, with Keanu Reeves returning as the professional hitman and assassin John Wick. According to insider Daniel Richtman in a Patreon post, filming is expected to begin in 2025.
During last year’s Q4 earnings call, Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate’s motion picture group, also hinted that a fifth installment of the John Wick franchise was in development.
Drake said, “What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including five and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon.” He added, “We’re building out the world, and when that five movies comes, it will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
Will Chad Stahelski to Direct John Wick: Chapter 5?
Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick film series, will likely return to direct Chapter 5. The franchise has officially surpassed $1 billion worldwide. Keanu Reeves’s John Wick will appear in the upcoming ‘John Wick Presents: Ballerina’ movie, starring Ana de Armas, which is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). What happened to John Wick will be fully revealed in Ballerina.
In John Wick: Chapter 4, Reeves’ John Wick will die at the film’s end. Caine and John want to deal with a two-person pistol duel. Caine shot John on his shoulder the first time, a second round on his hand, and a third on his stomach. John was badly injured and fell down. The final shot was taken by Marquis Vincent de Gramont from Caine. When going to take his shot, John, who hadn’t taken his third shot on Caine, will take on de Gramont. With a severe injury, John will die after getting his freedom from the High Table.
New ‘John Wick’ Spin-Off Featuring Donnie Yen’s Caine in the Works
Recently, THR reported that a new ‘John Wick’ spin-off movie focusing on Donnie Yen‘s character, Caine, is also in the works. The film is currently untitled, with filming set to begin in Hong Kong in 2025. In a statement, Yen said, “Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil, and Erica push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story, and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”
An official announcement for John Wick: Chapter 5 from Lionsgate is expected soon. However, there is no update regarding the release date at this time.
