Keanu Reeves (‘John Wick: Chapter 4’) will star in Ruben Östlund’s upcoming movie, ‘The Entertainment System Is Down‘.
The film is described as a social satire set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system isn’t working, sparking major chaos.
The two-time Palme d’Or-winning Swedish director has been collecting anecdotes for the past few years for the movie and has just finished the script. The role of Reeves has not yet been confirmed, but it will embody Östlund’s brand of black comedy.
More cast details are not yet available. They will be revealed once production begins.
Back in 2023, speaking to Variety, Östlund stated that the film would be “a study of how human beings interact in this little laboratory that is a plane” and “will examine how modern human beings are affected under these circumstances.” Additionally, he expressed his hope that it would prompt the biggest walkout in the history of the Cannes Film Festival.
Östlund and Erik Hemmendorff are producing through their company Plattform Produktion in Gothenburg, Sweden, with Philippe Bober’s Coproduction Office handling international sales.
Reeves will next appear in the John Wick spin-off film ‘Ballerina,’ alongside Ana de Armas. Additionally, he has recently been cast as Shadow in ‘Sonic 3‘.
The release date for ‘The Entertainment System Is Down’ is yet to be announced. However, filming is expected to begin this fall.
