Kevin Feige Reveals Why the MCU Is Prioritizing Quality Over Quantity

Marvel is moving toward a quality-first approach as it plans the future of the MCU.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, there will be no Marvel Studios films released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Feige confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars will be the only MCU movie released in 2027, with the decision being part of Marvel’s new “quality over quantity” strategy.

Speaking to Empire, Feige said that Marvel Studios is concentrating on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as its most important upcoming films. He described Secret Wars as a major stepping stone for the future of the MCU and teased that the 2028 slate will begin with Ghost Rider and Black Panther III.

Feige said, “A lot of it is a strategy we’ve talked about for a while: focusing on quality.”

He added, “We always try to focus on quality, but when the quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn’t want to be spread thin, and the Avengers are as important as it gets. And Secret Wars, in particular for Empire readers who know the comics, is a setup in and of itself for the future, for what’s next. So really, it was about landing those two movies and setting up 2028, of which we’ve revealed two so far: Ghost Rider and Black Panther III.”

Recently, Feige confirmed that the upcoming Avengers films are inspired by the “Time Runs Out” and “Secret Wars” comic book storylines.

“What we really want to do is two things: first, to bring closure to some storylines that began before Iron Man, including the original X-Men characters. Second, at the same time, to set the stage for the future.”

Feige teased that the MCU has only scratched the surface of the X-Men’s stories. He said there are countless X-Men storylines that have never been adapted into live action.

“The amount of X-Men stories that have not been told yet [is awesome]. Not just the ones that interact with other Marvel heroes, of which there are lots, but there are sagas upon sagas upon sagas within the X-Men that we’re very excited to delve into.”

Apart from Ghost Rider and Black Panther III, Marvel hasn’t announced the rest of its Phase 7 projects. Many fans expected the cast announcement for the X-Men reboot movie, but it wasn’t revealed. We can expect it at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which takes place from August 14 to 16, 2026, in California.
